The department of Medical Radiation Physics in Malmö is part of the department of Translational Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine and is led by Prof. Lars E. Olsson. One of the research groups at the department is the Environmental Radiology Group, which is led by Prof. Christopher L. Rääf and is located at the Diagnostic Center at Skåne University Hospital.The Environmental Radiology group has a close collaboration with the BAR group (Biospheric and Anthropogenic Radioactivity) at the Department of Physics in Lund. The group's work aims to study ionizing radiation in our environment and how radiation doses to humans and biota can be measured and calculated.   • Computer simulations and interpretation of other researchers' data
  • Literature studies of possible Gen IV nuclear fuel nuclide inventories with respect to the radiotoxicity of the constituent substances under different conditions (e.g. during operation versus in the event of accident release)
  • Identify and compare the most radiotoxic substances with existing reference values in internal dosimetry linked to nuclear fuels
  • Operational and accident releases from a selection of Gen IV reactions will be simulated, calculated and compared with existing radiation dosimetric impact assessments for light water reactors
  • Investigate which internal dosimetric or radiobiological experiments need to be conducted specifically for Gen IV nuclear fuels
  • The results will be presented in a scientific publication
Qualifications
Requirements for the position are:
  • Completed advanced degree in natural sciences or engineering, specifically in nuclear physics, environmental radiology, medical radiation physics, physical chemistry or equivalent, or
  • Completed course requirements of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits at advanced level, or otherwise acquired substantially equivalent knowledge
  • Completed independent tasks (e.g. bachelor or master thesis) in a relevant subject comprising at least 30 credits.
  • Basic knowledge of nuclear physics from undergraduate or advanced level courses
  • Experience working with calculations or computer simulation of nuclear reactions
  • Very good knowledge of English, in speech and writing
  • Documented experience of independent work and successful work in a research group
Great importance will be placed on personal qualities as the task requires you to be systematic, have good collaboration skills and the ability to work independently.Additional qualifications for the position are
  • Good knowledge of reactor physics and dosimetry
  • Experience in working in radiochemistry or radiobiology
  • Good knowledge of Swedish in speech and writing
  • Good ability to independently follow set schedules and deliver in accordance with them
Other information
This is a fixed-term position (SÄVA) of 12 months, 100 % of full time. Starting date according to agreement.How to apply
