The research project ”Beyond nature vs. nurture: Gene-environment interactions and political behavior” is financed by the Swedish Research Council and leverages both register data and genotype information to explore how political behavior is shaped by the interplay between nature and nurture. A researcher position within this project is now being announced. The project is located at the Department of Government, Uppsala university. Research has been conducted at the Department of Government for close to 400 years. The department is characterized by a stimulating research environment, well anchored in the international research frontier. With a staff of about 50 active researchers and about 40 doctoral students, the department is counted as one of the leading political science departments in the Nordics.Duties:The position admits teaching up to 20%. Remaining 80% shall be devoted to research. The research is conducted within the project and aims at using robust methods for causal identification to map out interaction effects between different measures of genetic information and surrounding environmental factors, with political behavior as the dependent variable.Qualifications:To qualify for the position, the applicant must have a doctoral degree in political science. Assessment of applications is based first and foremost on the applicant’s ability to conduct independent research and documented scientific skill. More importance is placed on the quality of scientific output than the number of publications. Solid skills in and experience with quantitative methods and causal inference is a requirement. Since the project is based on analysis of genetic data, some experience with statistical genetics, or work with either GWAS analyses or polygenic indices, is also a requirement.Additional Qualifications:Previous experience with register data research, as well as research in the field of social science genomics, is strongly valued.About the employment:The employment is a temporary position for 4 months.
