Join us in shaping the future of talent management in Europe alongside 170+ dedicated co-workers.More about the role: Lead Java ArchitectAs Lead Java Architect, you’ll take the technical lead in designing and evolving Assessio’s core SaaS platform, a strategic product that powers data-driven recruitment and development for some of Europe’s most forward-leaning enterprises and public organizations. In addition to guiding the backend architecture across three agile teams, you’ll also manage and lead one of our core development teams, with a strong influence on both people and the platform.You’ll work hands-on with Java 21, Spring 6, and guide architecture for a distributed, cloud-native backend running on AWS and Kubernetes. Expect to integrate modern technologies like Kafka, GraphQL, gRPC, and lead the adoption of GenAI and LLMs into our platform.You’ll collaborate closely with engineering teams, product managers, designers, and DevOps to deliver high-performing, secure, and scalable services that bring real value to our users. This role is remote-first with colleagues across multiple European countries.Responsibilities
  • Design scalable, resilient microservices using Java 21 and Spring Boot
  • Managing one of the core teams and leading backend architecture across three agile teams
  • Balancing hands-on coding for our core platform and strategic design
  • Guide the integration of GenAI capabilities and help shape our technical future
  • Ensure best practices in CI/CD, TDD, secure development, and cloud-native operations
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across product, UX, DevOps, and data
What we’re looking for
  • 5+ years’ experience in architecture with Java and Spring development
  • Proven experience with microservices architecture and distributed systems
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS (EKS, RDS, SQS) and Kubernetes
  • Experience with PostgreSQL and Kafka
  • Familiarity with identity and access management (Keycloak, OAuth2)
  • Solid understanding of agile development practices, DevSecOps and CI/CD
  • Passion for mentoring and guiding others, clean code, and solving real-world business problems.
Nice-to-have
  • Previous experience in HR tech or SaaS platforms
  • Exposure to AI/ML workflows or infrastructure-as-code tools (CDK, Terraform)
  • Familiarity with observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana or ELK
  • gRPC; GraphQL is also a plus
  • Experience in a managerial role, or a strong ambition to take that step as your next career move.
