We have the power of over 40,000 students and co-workers. Students who provide hope for the future. Co-workers who contribute to Linköping University meeting challenges of today. Our fundamental values rest on credibility, trust and security. By having the courage to think freely and innovate, our actions together, large and small, contribute to a better world. We look forward to receiving your application! We are looking for a PhD student in Medical Science.Your work assignmentsYour work will entail the investigation of how Wnt signaling, a cell-to-cell communication pathway conserved across the animal kingdom, acts as master regulator of cell fate. While the mechanisms of canonical Wnt pathway have been extensively studied, it is not yet understood how nuclear protein β-catenin can drive the wide array of transcriptional responses depending on the context, developmental stage, or organism. You will investigate how the activation of Wnt signaling evolved to orchestrate genomic function that regulates cell fate across different organisms at the evolutionary tree, from protists (Dictyostelium discoideum) to humans. As a PhD student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20 per cent of full-time.Your qualificationsYou have graduated at Master's level in molecular biology with a focus in genetics or completed courses with a minimum of 240 credits, at least 60 of which must be in advanced courses. Alternatively, you have gained corresponding knowledge in another way.The candidate must possess experience with the following technologies:- CUT&RUN- qRT-PCR and- Extensive DNA cloning technologies- Experience in Codon optimization from Dictyostelium to Human sequences and viceversa- Experience in Culturing Dictyostelium discoideum- Experience in Genetic engineering and developing CRISPR constructs- Experience in Bioinformatics and data analysisMeritorious will be considered experience in:- Microscopy-based imaging- Immunohistochemistry- Work with clonal cell lines- Work with other model organisms such as D. melanogaster or D. rerioYou are a curiosity-drive person, fascinated by the complexity of biological systems and their ability to self-organize, and the manner in which they come about via evolutionary processes. You are also drawn to teaching and supervision of younger students, and to work in cooperation in an internationally-oriented research group.Your application must contain a letter of intent describing how your qualifications make you a good fit for the research group. Moreover, a brief (2-page) scientific proposal must be attached in which you propose how to discover the mechanism of transduction and the evolutionary origin of Wnt Signaling using model organisms and/or organoids systems.Your workplaceThe position is located at the which is a part of the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences (BKV).The Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences is one of the university's largest departments, with operations mainly in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
