The duties primarily involve research and teaching within undergraduate and graduate education. The teaching includes supervising thesis students and doctoral candidates. Teaching will amount to a maximum of 70% of full-time. Departmental administrative tasks may also be included in the position. The content of the duties, as well as the distribution between research, teaching, and administration, may change over time.The Division of Mathematical Statistics aims to strengthen existing research groups but also to expand our activities with new theoretical aspects within data science to meet the rapidly growing demand from students and external partners. Furthermore, we see a strong need for method development, teaching, and thesis supervision in areas related to financial or actuarial mathematics.The employee is expected to actively seek external funding for the department's research activities and to develop both intra- and interdisciplinary collaboration with units within the university, with other universities, public institutions, or with the industry. Currently, the department is engaged in research collaborations with several of the national strategic research areas located at Lund University, with hospitals both within and outside the region, and with other departments at Lund University.Collegial leadership is an important part of our strategic processes, and the department places great value on the employee's willingness and ability to take on leadership roles in the future.Qualification requirements
A person is qualified to be employed as a senior lecturer if they have demonstrated teaching expertise and been awarded a PhD in subject matter of relevance to the position, or equivalent research expertise, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 4 Section 4.To be qualified for this position, the applicant must have completed a PhD within Mathematical statistics or equivalent.The position requires at least five weeks’ training in teaching and learning in higher education or corresponding knowledge that has been obtained in some other way. An exception to this requirement may be made in special cases. Applicants who do not possess training in teaching and learning in higher education are to undergo such training within two years of taking up the position.Teaching staff at Lund University are required to be suitable for the position and to have the general ability to fulfil their work duties well.Assessment criteria
Applicants are expected to present their current research as well as a research plan for the coming years, and explain how this relates to the description in the job posting. Strong emphasis will be placed on demonstrated ability to be driven, creative, open, and collaborative. It is also important to be communicative, independent, socially competent, and responsive to the needs of the organization.Requirements for the position:
- Strong scientific expertise in the areas defined in the job description above. The applicant’s research profile should align with existing research groups but contribute new theoretical aspects within modern data science. Furthermore, the applicant’s research profile should be related to multiple methods used in financial or actuarial mathematics, such as extreme value theory, inference for stochastic processes, optimization theory, and/or Monte Carlo simulations.
- Experience in obtaining research grants in national and/or international competition.
- Very good teaching skills
- Experience in teaching and developing courses in their own and related fields at both undergraduate and advanced levels (including doctoral education).
- Experience in supervising thesis students.
- Ability to teach in English is required.
- Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration with other fields is highly meritorious.
- Experience in course development is meritorious.
- The ability to link research to teaching in the relevant subject area and in higher education pedagogy is meritorious.
- Experience in supervising doctoral students is meritorious.
- Documented leadership skills and/or administrative skills are strongly meritorious. The ability to create engagement, participation, and a positive working environment is an example of demonstrated skill.
- Documented ability to collaborate with society at large.
- Experience in communicating science and the importance of research to society.
