PhD position within the Infection Medicine Research Group
- Lund, Skåne
- Tillfälligt
- Heltid
The research group led by Professor Johan Malmström develops techniques in quantitative and structural mass spectrometry to analyze protective antibody repertoires at high resolution. This detailed information on protective antibody responses is subsequently used to structurally characterize conserved epitopes and to facilitate the design of multivalent nanoparticle vaccines. The team was recently awarded an ERC Advanced Grant to determine the optimal combination of epitopes that elicits the highest level of protection.Within the research group, we value a positive work environment built on respect and consideration in our interactions with one another. We continuously strive to create conditions that foster job satisfaction, development, and participation for all members of the team. The research group is now seeking a full-time doctoral student starting on October 15, 2025 (or as agreed). We offer

The proposed PhD project will first map the antibody epitope landscape of bacterial antigens to identify the most vulnerable and functionally relevant epitopes. These insights will then be applied to design and test multivalent, protein-based nanoparticle vaccines that display the selected epitopes in a controlled and optimized manner.QualificationsRequirements for the Position:
- A Master of Science in Biotechnology, Biomedicine, or Molecular Biology
- Experience in structural and quantitative proteomics
- Prior experience in analyzing proteomics data and knowledge in bioinformatics
- Background in immunology and protein biochemistry
- Bioinformatics
- Hands-on experience in protein design or structural bioinformatics
- Hands-on experience in biophysical techniques used in structural analysis
- Prior experience with chemical cross-linking (XL-MS) and hydrogen–deuterium exchange mass spectrometry (HDX-MS)
