We're an interdisciplinary team around the world tasked with identifying, prototyping, and scaling new technologies and practices. With our partners, we focus on convening and collaborating on new and different solutions, low- and high-tech, by:Looking at the 2-5 year horizon to evaluate emerging and trending technologies and to see how UNICEF can work with the private sector on doing better business while improving essential services for children;Investing in early stage solutions that show great potential to positively impact children in the 02 year future including the Venture Fund that invests in open source technology solutions from start-ups based in UNICEF's programme countries;Identifying proven solutions that can be implemented at national scale in multiple countries - taking the ideas that help thousands in one country, bringing them to dozens of countries across multiple sectors, and impacting the lives of millions of children.”The consultant will be working under the supervision of Design Lead, Synne Marion Olsen. Our goal is to maximize the impact of UNICEF's innovations globally through rigorous, data-driven evidence. In short, we care about what works in innovation, and why. And we care about bringing these insights to UNICEF globally and beyond.How can you make a difference?A critical barrier to scaling impactful innovations in the development sector is the lack of sustainable financial and business models that ensure long-term viability. To address this gap, UNICEF seeks to commission a landscape analysis to identify and assess existing financial and business models that support the scaling of UNICEF innovations. The findings will inform strategy development, partnerships, and investment decisions to enhance the sustainability and scalability of high-impact, transformative solutions.Your main responsibilities will be:Map and categorize existing financial and business models used to scale innovations in UNICEF and the development sector at large. The models can be drawn from different thematic areas.Analyze strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, risks, and evolutions associated with different models.Identify success factors and barriers to adoption and scalability.Highlight emerging trends and innovations in financing and business models for innovation scaling.Analyse business and financial model compatibility with UNICEF legal and regulatory constraints.Provide actionable recommendations for UNICEF to leverage or adapt these models.If you would like to know more about this position, please review the complete Job Description here:To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…Minimum requirements:
- Education:
- An advanced university degree (Master's or higher) in Business Administration, Economics, Development Studies, or a related field.
- Work Experience: A minimum of 8 years of demonstrated professional experience in business model development, financial sustainability analysis, and revenue modeling for social impact initiatives.
- Strong understanding of different financing mechanisms (e.g., grants, impact investing, blended finance, public-private partnerships).
- Ability to assess cost structures, pricing strategies, and scalability constraints in development sector projects.
- Experience in financial forecasting and scenario analysis for long-term sustainability
- Certifications in social enterprise management, impact investing, or financial modeling (a plus).
- Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
- Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset
- Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
- No work-related travel is required for the role.
- Payment of professional fees will be based on the submission of agreed deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.
