Our work focuses on advancing the use of extracellular vesicles in the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders.DivisionDepartment of Laboratory Medicine, Division of Biomolecular and Cellular Medicine (BCM)The Biomolecular and Cellular Medicine is one of the divisions at the Department of Laboratory Medicine. BCM provides the facilities needed for cell - molecular biology research and the possibility to perform research in vivo. With its particular position at the interface between basic science and clinical application, BCM has a unique opportunity to translate progress in biomedical research into new methods and principles for diagnosing and treating diseases.Your missionIn this role, you will contribute to advancing our research on extracellular vesicle–mediated delivery of therapeutics for neurodegenerative disorders. You will help to identify disease-relevant targets and gain hands-on experience across the full pipeline of EV production. This means your work will involve a wide range of lab techniques, including molecular cloning, cell culture, extracellular vesicle production and purification, flow cytometry, protein analysis (Western blot), and RNA expression analysis (RT-qPCR). Beyond the bench, you will also carry out literature research to uncover new therapeutic opportunities. Importantly, you will regularly present your experimental results, literature insights, and overall progress to peers, supervisors, and mentors in weekly group meetings.Your profileWe are seeking a candidate with a strong passion for extracellular vesicle research and neurodegenerative disorders. Experience in cloning techniques and cell culture would be valuable. These scholarships aim to provide students at the undergraduate or graduate level with early practical experience of research work, in order to strengthen the link between education and research and encourage future studies at the doctoral level. The scholarships can be granted either for studies in an existing course or for a shorter period of practical research experience (documented in an individual study plan/research plan) for admitted students at the undergraduate or graduate level. The scholarship may be awarded for up to 12 months (divided into a maximum of four courses/periods) during the study period. Decisions on scholarships may be made for a maximum of six months at a time.To be eligible for a scholarship, the person must have been admitted (and registered in Ladok) to KI to study at the undergraduate or graduate level or admitted (and registered) to undergraduate or graduate level programs at a university with which KI collaborates. What do we offer?A creative and inspiring environment with wide-ranging expertise and interests.
